Formula E 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix Showcases the Future of Sustainable Motorsport and Drives Inclusive Climate & Community Action

Jakarta, 14 July 2025 — The Formula E 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix once again proves that world-class electric racing and sustainability leadership can go hand in hand. As part of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, this event not only delivers thrilling competition but also demonstrates how electric racing can drive real environmental and social change.

Formula E continues to set the global standard for sustainable motorsport. Each year, the championship produces approximately 33,000 tons of carbon emissions, including spectator travel to and from race venues. All these emissions are fully offset through verified premium carbon credits. In comparison, other series such as Formula 1 produce around 350,000 tons of carbon emissions annually—excluding spectator travel—highlighting Formula E’s contribution to significantly reducing motorsport’s global carbon footprint while delivering thrilling world-class sport.

The Formula E 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix also marks a milestone in applying sustainable solutions to event operations. Building on lessons from previous seasons, this year’s race is partly powered by Indonesia’s national grid Utilising grid energy not only lowers carbon intensity but also reduces the need for transporting heavy electrical equipment, resulting in greater operational efficiency and fewer indirect emissions.

Beyond the race track, electric vehicles play a major role in supporting clean mobility during the event, including spectator shuttles and logistics vehicles, further reinforcing Indonesia’s readiness for widespread EV infrastructure.

Julia Pallé, Vice President of Sustainability at Formula E, stated, “Formula E is more than just racing—it’s a platform for meaningful change. Through supporting local initiatives like CLIMATEABILITY through our Better Futures Fund, and the integration of sustainability principles on and off the track, we proudly demonstrate that high-performance sport can empower communities, protect the environment, and leave a lasting positive legacy.”

Ivan C. Permana, Project Director of the Formula E 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix, added, “The wide-reaching impact of this event aligns with Jakarta’s vision as a global city prioritising innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. With climate challenges such as rising sea levels and worsening floods, hosting Formula E in Jakarta strengthens urban resilience and accelerates Indonesia’s leadership in green innovation.”

Raisha Syarfuan, President Director of PT Sarinah, stated, “We are proud to be part of the Formula E journey in Jakarta, not only as the title sponsor, but also as a partner in driving sustainable transformation. Our support for the 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix aligns with Sarinah’s commitment to being a cultural and retail hub that champions environmental responsibility, inclusivity, and community empowerment. Sarinah is where innovation, tradition, and a new lifestyle converge. We believe that this collaboration with Formula E strengthens our position as a tourism destination rooted in Indonesian culture and helps accelerate the adoption of sustainable living.”

Beyond the circuit, Formula E and its partners have implemented tangible sustainability initiatives across Jakarta. Electric vehicle fleets, including spectator shuttles and logistics operations, have been deployed to support low-emission mobility throughout the event. In the Fan Village, spectators are encouraged to reduce single-use plastics by accessing free water refill stations and using biodegradable eco-cups made from corn starch. Formula E also collaborates with Waste4Change to implement a zero-waste-to-landfill waste management system, ensuring all waste is processed responsibly and turned into reusable materials.

As part of its commitment, Formula E led another successful Ancol Beach Clean-up, engaging drivers, teams, local communities, and partners such as JakPro and Waste4Change. This year, 150 kg of ocean waste was collected, with some of the waste collected transformed into new materials, including furniture made from recycled plastics, demonstrating the event’s dedication to leaving a lasting legacy for Jakarta’s coastal environment and empowering communities to take positive action.

In addition to its environmental focus, Formula E also drives social impact through multiple targeted programmes. Its Better Futures Fund Provided a €25,000 donation to Yayasan Perempuan dan Anak Amirah, a Jakarta-based civil society organisation. The funding will specifically support Amirah’s “CLIMATEABILITY: From the Margins to the Frontlines” project, an inclusive climate leadership programme empowering women, youth, and persons with disabilities. The initiative includes leadership workshops, accessible educational materials such as Jakarta’s Climate Sign Language Glossary, grassroots eco-projects, and digital storytelling to amplify the voices of marginalised communities. During the Jakarta E-Prix race week, representatives from Formula E visited the kick off event for the project, engaging directly with the organisation and community who will benefit from the funding, alongside Amirah’s involvement in the beach clean and presenting the Julius Baer Pole Position trophy to driver Jake Dennis.

As the world’s only all-electric racing series, Formula E, through the Formula E 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix, once again proves that sport, environmental progress, and community empowerment can unite to create a better future—starting with one city, one race, and one real, impactful initiative.
