A total of 244 Student Transportation vehicles are now equipped with GPS to enable real-time monitoring across 103 routes, enhancing operational accountability and providing safer journeys for students.
Tabanan, Bali, 25 July 2026 – The Tabanan Regency Government, through the Tabanan Regency Transportation Agency, has entrusted TransTRACK, a leading technology enabler specialising in Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based vehicle operations digitalisation, to implement Global Positioning System (GPS) devices across 244 Angkutan Trans Siswa operating in Tabanan Regency, Bali. The GPS installation forms part of the Ayo Selamat Sekolah Program, which integrates vehicle monitoring technology with initiatives to strengthen driver readiness and discipline as part of the operational preparations for the new academic year. The programme involves multiple stakeholders, including the Tabanan Regency Transportation Agency, the Tabanan Regency Health Office, the Tabanan Regency National Narcotics Agency (BNK), and other relevant parties.

Ensuring the safety of student transportation remains a key priority in the delivery of public transport services in Bali. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Bali Province, there were 8,498 traffic accidents recorded throughout 2025, resulting in 261 fatalities, 67 serious injuries, and 8,649 minor injuries. Meanwhile, the Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali) identified human error, including driver negligence and traffic violations, as the primary cause of road accidents across the province.

To date, TransTRACK’s GPS devices have been installed in all 244 Angkutan Trans Siswa vehicles, serving 103 routes across 10 districts in Tabanan Regency. The free transportation service is provided for elementary and junior high school students to ensure safe and accessible transportation to and from school. The GPS devices are directly connected to the Transportation Agency’s command centre, enabling authorities to remotely monitor vehicle locations, travel history, and route compliance with accuracy.

Through real-time monitoring, the Transportation Agency can ensure that every vehicle operates along its designated route. The journey data also serves as a valuable tool for operational supervision and evaluation, helping improve driver discipline, prevent route deviations or unauthorised route changes, and strengthen service transparency.

The GPS implementation in Tabanan also reflects TransTRACK’s broader commitment to improving vehicle operational safety. In addition to GPS technology for vehicle tracking and journey monitoring, TransTRACK also offers an AI-powered Driver Monitoring System (DMS) designed to help detect risky driving behaviours, including signs of driver fatigue and distraction.
According to Anggia, vehicle monitoring technology should deliver measurable improvements in both safety and operational discipline. She also expressed hope that the implementation of telematics technology in Tabanan’s Angkutan Trans Siswa programme could serve as a model for other regions seeking to enhance public transportation services through digital innovation.
“GPS data should be translated into concrete supervision and evaluation measures. Ultimately, our goal is to help drivers operate more responsibly, enable governments to make data-driven decisions, and ensure that every student reaches their destination safely,” Anggia concluded.
In addition to the GPS installation, all 244 drivers underwent health screenings and drug tests, and participated in road safety awareness sessions. This initiative aligns with TransTRACK’s commitment to reducing accident risks by strengthening driver safety. Human factors, including fatigue, loss of concentration, unsafe driving behaviour, and non-compliance with designated routes and operational procedures remain among the leading contributors to road traffic accidents in Indonesia.
Moving forward, TransTRACK will continue collaborating with government agencies and industry stakeholders to deliver telematics solutions that support safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation systems.
