Bandung, Indonesia, 20 May 2025 — Toastmasters International, the global non-profit dedicated to cultivating leadership and communication excellence, successfully hosted the District 87 Annual Conference 2025 from 16–18 May in Bandung, Indonesia. The event was officially opened by Muhammad Farhan, Mayor of Bandung, and brought together over 250 delegates from Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, East Malaysia, and Timor Leste, advancing Southeast Asia’s leadership capabilities and strengthening its voice in the global economic arena.
Carrying the theme “Connect and Power Up!”, the three-day conference empowered professionals, emerging leaders, and communication enthusiasts to elevate their skills, expand cross-cultural connections, and foster regional growth. Under the tagline “Now, Everybody Can Connect!”, the conference emphasized inclusivity and the power of dialogue in shaping stronger communities and economies.

With over 280,000 members in 144 countries, Toastmasters International has, for more than a century, equipped people from all walks of life to lead with confidence and influence. In this era of regional integration and shifting economic dynamics, the conference served as a vital platform for nurturing the next generation of Southeast Asian changemakers.

Prof. Dr. apt. Keri Lestari, M.Si., Head of the Research and Cooperation Commission of the UNPAD Academic Senate and Guest of Honour at the event, highlighted, “Toastmasters District 87 Conference 2025 not only supports individual development but contributes meaningfully to Southeast Asia’s collective progress. The conference agenda featured ceremonial, competitive, and educational sessions. The Opening Ceremony and Speech Contests were held on Saturday, 17 May, followed by a Gala Dinner that celebrated culture, connection, and achievement. The event concluded on Sunday, 18 May, with a Closing Ceremony and Awards Presentation, recognizing outstanding participants and leaders.

Attendees engaged in diverse contests including the International Speech Contest, Table Topics, Evaluation Contest, Bahasa Indonesia Speech Contest, and Mandarin Speech Contest, showcasing the region’s linguistic richness and talent.
The speaker lineup featured renowned Toastmasters from across Asia, including Maimunah Natasha, DTM, Past International Director, known for elevating District 51 to top global rankings, Poh Kim Siong of Malaysia, a respected leadership coach and Toastmasters mentor, Lin Ting Wei, 12-time public speaking champion from Taiwan, and Mas Mahathir bin Mohamad and Stephen Fernando, both acclaimed leaders within the Toastmasters community with decades of influence.

Beyond its professional value, the conference gave participants a chance to experience Bandung, a city known for its blend of nature, creativity, and intellectual vibrancy. From Lembang’s scenic views to local culinary adventures, the “Paris of Java” offered an unforgettable setting for reflection and growth.
